Exclusive: Interview with Mr. Adrian Kwok (Global Head of Sales & Marketing) ANCA Motion Pty. Ltd.

A&I: Please Brief Us about Your Role & Job Profile at “ANCA MotionPty. Ltd.”
Adrian: ANCA Motion would like to combine our strengths in our chosen applications and technologies and support customers in the India market with their growth strategies, both in their local market and their aspirations of growth abroad. As Head of Sales & Marketing for ANCA Motion, I am responsible for making ANCA Motion known to the India market and providing the opportunity for companies to leverage our knowledge and expertise for their growth. India has demonstrated with their investment in STEM learning pathways that they are fast becoming an industrial leader on the global stage – India is a key region for ANCA Motion. This means the focus right now is supporting the local ANCA Motion Team headed by Rahul Diwan; making sure that the India market knows who ANCA Motion are, and what they can do for them; and forming key relationships with OEMs in India of CNC Machinery and Industrial Automation Businesses.

A&I: Take us through the journey of “ANCA Motion Pty. Ltd.” In India & Company’s Current Operations.
Adrian: ANCA Motion is part of the ANCA Group, which has a long history spanning nearly 50 years with CNC Controls and Automation. With this long history, we have combined this deep knowledge with “Easy-to-use” software and hardware, forming the basis of our core offering. Currently, we are connecting with select OEMs in the market for different niche applications – like grinding, laser cutting, automation, packaging, food processing.
Secondly, we are in a process of setting up ANCA Motion’s software capability in Bangalore. Then, as a next step, we also plan to set up a service and repairs centre of ANCA Motion in Pune, Maharashtra as the regional headquarters.
With ANCA Motion’s base platform and capability, we are working alongside our clients, offering a more tailored experience. This shoulder-to-shoulder approach will allow our customers to develop future-ready solutions to not only stand ahead in domestic markets but also on a global platform.

A&I: Please brief Us About “ANCA Motion Pty. Ltd.” Global Network & Infrastructure?
Adrian: ANCA Motion specialise in CNC Controls and Automation Products, combining their core capabilities to provide their customers with Motion Control Solutions. With ANCA Motion’s focus to combine “Easy-to-use” with “Power” with particular expertise in Laser; Grinding; and Tubular Linear Motors. Our engineering head office is based in Australia and we have a global presence in more than forty countries around the world with ANCA Motion solutions in every major continent, spanning a wide variety of industries. We have a strong focus in the Asia Pacific region during recent years. In 2017, our new branch in Tianjin, China, was launched, covering application development, training, logistics and providing support for regional aftermarket service. In 2019, we opened a new technology centre in Taiwan to meet the demands of a rapidly growing Asia market. All major parts are manufactured in this set up. By utilising our APAC existence, we can provide after market service support by leveraging our engineering expertise throughout the local network. We can also help you build and deploy intelligent
manufacturing solutions faster and more efficiently by tapping into our extensive regional industrial know-how.

A&I: What are the Market Opportunities For Your Industrial automation Products In India? How do you plan to Position these Products?
Adrian: ANCA Motion have developed their Motion Control knowledge and expertise in high precision and dynamic applications, such as Grinding and Laser. Additionally, we have Automation Products that would suit the demands of the Food & Beverage and Packaging Industries. The strength of ANCA Motion is its Customised Products and Solutions with the better than the best quality in the industry. Our customers are highly satisfied with the quality product backed by a strong after sales support. Be it the speed of operation, quality of nanotechnology or the user-friendly interface, ANCA Motion always offers a competitive edge to its customers.

Adrian: ANCA Motion is headquartered in Melbourne Australia. We have a strong engineering team which covers all aspects of CNC & motion control product development including core kinematics, application packages, servo control technologies, motors, and HMI devices. Innovation is a key in ANCA Motion’s DNA. A critical factor to ANCA Motion’s success is that at ANCA Motion we have a dedicated research department who looks after all state-of-art technologies as well as industrial trends. In establishing our Software Capability in India, this is to bring our development team closer to the market so that they can better understand market requirements and develop “Easy-to-use” applications that are “Powerful” and “Efficient”. We also have a great support and service team with decades of experience working closely with branches around the globe to support our customers. Our factory located in Taiwan enables us to leverage the best supply chain & logistics eco-system in the world, ensuring the fastest delivery to our customers.

A&I: Being One of the Leader in Industrial automation & flexible control systems and solution, How according to You Market has evolved over the Years?
Adrian: One thing that is a constant, is change. Markets are evolving in all regions. With ANCA Motion our products, with our R&D team, we ensure that our customers are future ready. For example, the COVID-19 pandemic brought the relevancy to IoT to many businesses’ attention. ANCA Motion’s CNC has all the capability to ensure that OEMs are IoT enabled with their OPC-UA. Another example, ANCA Motion were early adopters of EtherCAT, and as this protocol is on the rise, we have put our customers ahead of the curb. ANCA Motion’s EtherCAT Pendant is stand-alone, and is virtually plug & play with all EtherCAT systems. Something will be in the forefront of many businesses’ minds is the environment, particularly for the world to be net zero by 2050. This means that the immediate future will have the leading organisations looking at minimising energy usage at a minimum, and re-using energy where possible. With ANCA Motion’s Tubular Linear Motor – LinX® – customers can minimise their energy usage and environmental footprint. With products such as ANCA Motion’s Capacitor Bank, customers could minimise energy wastage, and be more conservative in their approach. A practical first step that OEMs in India could make right now to minimise their environmental footprint is to replace their pneumatics and ball screws with the ANCA Motion LinX®. At ANCA Motion, we design and manufacture flexible control systems, specialising in high precision CNC machines. A&I: Which Key Industries Do You Cater to? Please Share Some Of Application Areas.
Adrian: With CNC at our core, and Motion Control our passion and expertise, ANCA Motion provide the opportunity for OEMs and Partners in Automation to create high quality products to be successful in India and abroad. Firstly, with our Tubular Linear Motors – LinX®. Applications are plenty when you look at it’s features: 4 When compared to Ballscrew Technology, LinX® is a direct drive resulting in higher precision at faster cycle times. Additionally, as LinX® is powered by magnets, it is more responsive with no backlash, and almost no wear – reducing maintenance requirements. 4When compared to Flat Bed, LinX® has much better thermal stability, which means that higher precision could be achieved without the necessary requirement of a chiller. Furthermore, with the design, it is much safer to install, and less wear on parts. 4High IP66/67 rating, which means that it is suitable in many environments where washdown is required. Combine this with the fact that LinX® requires no lubrication, LinX® really does lend itself to environments where hygiene is critical. With such great features this makes the LinX® ideal for the High Precision applications, such as grinding and metal cutting; ideal for High Speed such as metal forming and automation lines; ideal where Compact Design with High Power is required such as End of Arm applications for Robotics and Automation Lines; ideal for Food & Beverage environments such as Plastic Bottle manufacturing and industrial baking, to name a few. Not to mention, the Textiles and Weaving industry, where they could utilise the combination of all of the LinX® features. The applications are endless. Then there is also ANCA Motion’s EtherCAT Pendant. With the rise of the EtherCAT usage, especially in the Robotics field, the ANCA Motion EtherCAT Pendant is ideal. It is virtually plug & play with most EtherCAT systems. And, of course, there are ANCA Motion’s total solution including software support for niche applications – Grinding and Laser:
1. CyGrind – ANCA Motion’s CyGrind cylindrical grinding solution is a complete CNC system package combining premium CNC performance with user-friendly cylindrical grinding software. CyGrind takes the complexity out of cylindrical grinding with innovative software navigation combined with 3D graphical feedback, touch-friendly
interface and grinding simulation.
2. Pinch Peel Grinding – This is a niche grinding application where Rough & Finish operations are done in a single pass with a machine having two grinding wheels. This provides an exceptional performance and optimal concentricity. Although this concept may be new to some customers, it’s getting popular in many parts globally and is also expected to have its own place in Indian market. ANCA Motion fully supports this application & is ready to work closely with select OEMs.
3. Laser – ANCA Motion’s Laser Cutting control builds on our Profile Cutting control with additional capabilities specifically for Laser cutting. The control system provides full support for gantry machines, beam length control, height following, focal axis, and material handling. The open and flexible CNC includes support for advanced corner modes, custom kinematics, sheet qualification, and special move types designed to reduce cycle time and improve cut quality. By combining ANCA Motion CNC technology with the OEM’s engineered Laser Cutting solution the end machine is optimised for the application.
4. TubeCut Master – This is ANCA Motion’s complete solution for all types of tube cutting like round or square with a very precise and faster control over the complete operation. It works with the direct operation on drawing that reduces the complexity in tube cut programming. Optimized Z-axis control across corner improves the speed without any compromise on the shape. This works on fast response of height following control & special optimization for the tube corner to reach good performance across the corner and high efficiency. The OEM can make its own style GUI with no coding experience or knowledge required. It provides automation support for loading/unloading devices. The automation device is always checked through Modbus connection. Fully customized IoT applications are possible through TubeCut Master with standardized network interfaces – OPC UA. ANCA Motion’s CNC system is high end and would be appropriate for the most discerning CNC OEM. It is Windows Based, with Real-Time.

We hope that we will have our Centre of Excellence established here in India within the next 12-18 months. Additionally, having our India Service Centre established as an integral part of our Global Service Network. With this investment, Our vision is to work alongside our customers to develop high quality and precision applications, and stand behind our customers’ success in both local and overseas markets.
