Essential Fire Safety System every Factory & Warehouse must have. – Automation & Instrumentation Update
Industrial Updates

Essential Fire Safety System every Factory & Warehouse must have.

Fire safety is one of the essential elements one should have in their factory and warehouses. There
are mainly 3 main types of fire safety systems or solutions.

1. Fire prevention systems – Aims to minimize potential fire hazards.
2. Fire protection systems – Reduces damage and helps to safely evacuate.
3. Fire suppression systems – Intended to extinguish the flames.
Essentially, fire prevention systems such as flame detectors reduce the likelihood of a serious
fire. Fire prevention is about proactively identifying and removing fire hazards.

Ambetronics provides highly reliable detection systems for an effective prevention of fire hazard.

Flame Detector:

The first fire prevention equipment that every industry should have is Flame Detector.

Flame Detectors are composed of UV & IR sensors, combination of multiple IR & UV sensors, or
standalone sensors depending on the flame detector’s configuration.
Fire emits energy & radiations in the form of UV & IR emissions. These radiations are detected by
UV/IR sensors of the Flame Detector & analysed for unique radiation pattern of fire. Once it is
identified, it is verified multiple times within a few seconds to avoid false alarm & verify the
existence of true flame. Once confirmed alarm is generated.
Types of Flame Detectors:

Ultraviolet (UV) Flame Detectors:
The UV flame detectors consist of only UV sensor and can accurately detect the moment it spots a
small flame. This type of detector should be used strictly for indoor application where quick
detection is necessary. It is ideal for storage facility, offices, cleanrooms, and laboratories.

Infrared (IR) Flame Detectors:
IR Flame detectors consist of only IR sensor which is best for long range detection. It can also consist
of multiple IR sensors. It uses infrared band for monitoring specific patterns emitted by fire/flame.
These detectors are used where application is compact &close monitoring of static objects is
required. For example; monitoring of machinery in closed area, heavy machinery equipment, inside
control panel, powder coating, turbine, automotive &petrochemical applications

UV IR Flame Detectors:
UV IR detectors are a combination of both Ultraviolet (UV) & Infrared (IR) technology. The
combinations can be: UV & Triple IR sensors, UV &; Dual IR Sensors, or UV & Single IR Sensor. These
detectors are sensitive to both UV and IR wavelengths. It is best for the detection of flame as it is
able to collect information from both an UV and an IR perspective. This helps to minimize false
alarms. These detectors are suitable for both indoor as well as outdoor applications.

Industrial sectors that must have Flame Detectors installed:
 Onshore &Offshore Oil &Gas
 Paint Booths
 Engine Test Rooms
 Production / Assembly Line
 Chemical & Petrochemical Plants
 Storage Tank Farms
 Aircraft Hangers
 Power Generation Facilities
 Pharmaceutical Industry
 Printing Industry
 Warehouses
 Waste Disposal Facilities
 Manufacturing & Automation Industries
 Ships & Containers
 Cleanrooms
 Gasoline transport loading terminals
 Pipeline pumping stations
 Refineries
 Aircraft hangers
 Munition production facilities

As an old proverb says, “Prevention is better than cure”, Hence it is highly recommended to opt for
preventive fire safety equipment like Flame Detectors.
